Repeal AB 5: Innovation is Key to Recovery
If we are to regain our economic footing, we should celebrate the uniqueness of innovators and give them the freedom to do what they do
Dear Governor Newsom:
Assembly Bill 5 reclassifies contractors as employees, resulting in higher taxes, loss of workers’ flexibility to set their schedule and lost jobs.
Please work for the immediate REPEAL of AB 5!
Prior to AB 5, contractors were eligible for small business tax deductions for their work expenses. As employees under AB 5, these tax deductions will no longer be available.
As contractors, workers enjoyed the flexibility to set their own schedules, allowing them to work while going to school or caring for a loved one. Under AB 5, workers lose this flexibility.
AB 5 raises costs for numerous services, including healthcare. Drivers, home healthcare workers, tax preparers, hair stylists, and photographers are several among many impacted professions.
